"The Hoops for Hope charity basketball game was wildly successful this year, with the lobbyists besting the Members of Congress for only the second time in its nine-year history. The lobbyists came out ahead by a score of 45 to 36, although congressional staffers beat the lobbyists in the first game by a score of 66 to 55. More importantly for both sides, the event raised over $60,000 for the three charities: Horton's Kids, a nonprofit tutoring and mentoring organization for D.C. children; the Luke Tiahrt Foundation, which provides support for at-risk adolescents; and a scholarship fund at St. Anthony's school in Washington. George Washington Head Coach Karl Hobbs and Georgetown Head Coach John Thompson III coached not only the lobbyists and Members of Congress, but also provided a basketball clinic for D.C. kids prior to the two games.
