2008 Capitol PurSuits Drive
The American League of Lobbyists, the leading professional association for government affairs professionals, and men's retailer Men's Wearhouse, have announced the Fifth Annual Capitol PurSuit Drive. This drive is an ambitious, innovative program in partnership with Members of Congress and their staff to equip low-income individuals with business attire as they transition into the workplace.
Affording proper interview and professional attire is an enormous obstacle for low-income adults and at-risk youth. The Capitol PurSuit Drive will seek to collect men's and women's "gently used" business attire to donate to Americans in crisis, who are entering or re-entering the workplace. In four years, we have collected over 30,000 suits in just four days on Capitol Hill. The suits were donated from lobbyists, Members of Congress and the D.C. business community.
On June 4, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., we will be collecting men’s and women’s “gently used” business attire. Your suits, slacks, dress shirts, blouses, ties, belts and shoes will be donated to Americans in crisis re-entering the workforce. This is your opportunity to give the ‘suit off your back’ to help fellow Americans secure their future.
All donations are tax deductible and will be utilized by local and national nonprofit organizations whose mission is to provide proper wardrobe and grooming for low-income men and women, as well as at-risk youth. Not only do these organizations help individuals learn to project the proper outward appearance, they also offer job-readiness training and follow-up support. They are filling a huge void in the nonprofit sector with services that are crucial to successful job placement and retention.
Pitch in and join the American League of Lobbyists, Men’s Wearhouse, Members of Congress and their staff to make this year’s Capitol PurSuit Drive a huge success. Come to the Hill on June 4, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Rayburn Foyer (Rayburn House Office Building) and bring your extra business attire (on hangers please) to help get America back to work!
This is a great opportunity for the Government Relations community to demonstrate what our profession can give back to the community. For more information on this event contact Dave Wenhold at 703-927-1453 or by email at dwenhold@mwcapitol.com.
