Currently serving his first time in Congress, Altmire is the rare freshman selected to chair a subcommittee. He is also the first representative from Pennsylvania's fourth congressional district to serve as a committee or subcommittee chairman in nearly two decades. He has proven to be a strong advocate for small businesses, already passing two of his signature bills through the House and one signed into law earlier this year. He has also established himself as a strong advocate for veterans, working to improve benefits and medical treatment for combat-wounded veterans and to assist their families. His significant accomplishments as a freshman congressman have been widely recognized; he has been profiled in a number of national publications including TIME Magazine, USA Today and the New York Times.
